What is ASTRAS?

ASTRAS is a software designed to enhance executive functions in children with specific learning disorders, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, primary language disorders, individuals with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder, and intellectual function deficits.

Train your executive functions

An alteration of executive functions is common across neurodevelopmental disorders. Thus, ASTRAS aims to enhance the main executive functions through an appropriate operationalization of the constructs. In doing so, a valid and effective solution is provided in this context.

The usability and the efficacy of ASTRAS have been tested in different researches which have been published in international journals.

Cognitive profile

ASTRAS hosts 12 exercises designed to identify the areas of strength and weakness related to the child's executive functioning. These tasks are structured as small games with increasing complexity.

Cognitive training

ASTRAS consists of 40 games aiming at enhancing 5 specific executive functions. Additionally, there are other games designed to simultaneously train multiple executive functions and their interaction within more ecological contexts (e.g., grocery shopping, preparing a backpack, etc.).

Gamification

The assessment and treatment exercises for executive functions take place within game scenarios to make the experience more enjoyable and stimulating.

Data

ASTRAS allows for the collection of both general data on the accuracy of the child's performance for each exercise and more specific data (e.g., type of error, reaction times, planning time).

Monitoring

ASTRAS provides the ability to visualize the child's performance in graphical form and maintain a history of the training sessions in order to monitor the child's progress over time.

In-person and remote interventions

ASTRAS utilizes two modes (Tutor and Child) that enable users to conduct the assessment and treatment of executive functions both in-person and remotely.

Group interventions

ASTRAS includes a Group functionality, allowing to provide the assessment and training exercises to multiple children simultaneously.

Other tools for enhancing and supporting learning

ASTRAS also hosts tools designed for enhancing and supporting learning. Currently, our software contains three tools: 1) Tachistoscope; 2) A game for enhancing phonological awareness; 3) Concept maps.

ASTRAS has been developed through Unity3d (a cross-platform graphics engine developed by Unity Technologies that allows the development of video games and other interactive content) made available for major platforms (PC and tablets) and operating systems (Android®, Windows®, and macOS®). Additionally, a fully accessible online version has been developed, accessible through all web browsers.

ASTRAS can be purchased privately (e.g., a single therapist), schools, or rehabilitation centers. Various types of licenses are available to meet the different needs of our users.
